Solvent-based acid curing systems are widely used in wood and furniture coatings for their fast curing, high hardness, good chemical resistance, and excellent gloss. However, formulators face persistent challenges: pigment dispersion and color stability, floating and blossoming, settling and sagging, orange peel, fish eyes, foam entrapment, and adhesion issues. The KBS additive series is designed to address these challenges across acid-curing primers, topcoats, black finishes, and general wood coatings.

Improving Pigment Dispersion and Color Stability

• Our high-performance pigment and filler dispersing and wetting agents for wood and furniture coatings in acid curing systems, such as KBS-F5000A, KBS-F1610A, KBS-F1820, KBS-F0400, KBS-F1730, KBS-F530K, KBS-F104SK, and KBS-F7100, provide stable pigment dispersion. KBS-F5000A is an acid polyester compound for general-purpose dispersion with viscosity reduction and high cost performance. KBS-F1610A and KBS-F1820 are modified polyurethane compounds for efficient organic, inorganic, and carbon black dispersion. KBS-F1730 offers excellent dispersion, gloss, and color stability, especially in black finishes. KBS-F530K is a block acrylate type referenced to BYK-A530. KBS-F104SK is a silicone compound that improves floating color by pre- or post-addition. KBS-F7100 is an acid group copolymer solution for anti-settling and dispersion.

Controlling Rheology: Anti-Settling and Anti-Sagging

• Our hot-selling KBS rheology control additives for wood and furniture coatings in acid curing systems, such as KBS-C410K, KBS-C3600, and KBS-C3120X, provide anti-settling and anti-sagging performance. KBS-C410K is an organic polyurea with excellent anti-settling and minimal effect on leveling and gloss. KBS-C3600 is a polyethylene wax paste, easily dispersed without affecting gloss. KBS-C3120X is a polyamide wax paste with excellent anti-settling and anti-sagging.

Wetting, Leveling, and Surface Control

• Our high-performance wetting and leveling agents for wood and furniture coatings in acid curing systems, such as KBS-L3060, KBS-L333K, KBS-L331K, KBS-L410K, KBS-L358NK, and KBS-L3770, improve wetting, leveling, and surface smoothness. KBS-L3060 is a general-purpose silicone leveling agent with less effect on recoatability. KBS-L333K is a polyether modified silicone referenced to BYK-333. KBS-L331K is a polyether modified silicone. KBS-L410K is a silicone polymer. KBS-L358NK is a polyacrylate solution. KBS-L3770 is a fluorine modified acrylate solution for long-wave leveling and dark foam elimination.

Defoaming and Foam Control

• Our high-performance defoamers and air release additives for wood and furniture coatings in acid curing systems, such as KBS-X052K, KBS-X141K, and KBS-X055K, combine compatibility and defoaming ability. KBS-X052K is a polyacrylate referenced to BYK-052. KBS-X141K is a silicone solution referenced to BYK-141. KBS-X055K is a polyacrylate referenced to BYK-055. These defoamers are suitable for acid-curing wood topcoats, primers, and thick-film systems.

Adhesion Promotion and Substrate Bonding

KBS-Z0100 is an amino-containing organosilane. KBS-Z0200 is an epoxy-containing organosilane. KBS-Z0300 is a polyester compound. They are designed for solvent-based acid curing systems where enhanced substrate bonding is required.

Product Selection Guide

Practical Formulation Considerations

• Loading levels. Additive dosage depends on the base resin system, pigment/filler loading, and target performance. Laboratory evaluation is recommended for each formulation.
• Compatibility. The KBS series is compatible with acid-curing wood coatings, furniture coatings, primers, topcoats, and black finishes. KBS-F1730 is designed for both organic and inorganic pigments, especially in black finishes.
• Processing. Add under moderate agitation. Dispersants are typically incorporated during the pigment dispersion stage. Anti-settling and thixotropic agents can be added during let-down or under controlled shear. Wetting and leveling agents and defoamers are generally added in the let-down stage.
• Surface and feel. KBS-L3060 is recommended where recoatability is important. KBS-L410K provides good surface control for black finishes. KBS-L358NK and KBS-L3770 are suitable for matte topcoats.
• Foam control. KBS-X055K is recommended where compatibility and strong defoaming are required without shrinkage. KBS-X052K and KBS-X141K combine compatibility and defoaming in acid curing systems.
