Water-based furniture coatings are increasingly used for low VOC, reduced odor, and environmental compliance while delivering excellent gloss, hardness, chemical resistance, and durability. However, formulators face persistent challenges: pigment dispersion and color stability, floating and blossoming, settling and sagging, orange peel, fish eyes, foam, insufficient feel, water resistance, and adhesion issues. This additive series is designed to address these challenges across water-based furniture topcoats, white and black topcoats, matt coatings, pigment/filler pastes, aluminum powder systems, and general water-based furniture coatings.

Why KBS Additives Matter in Water-Based Furniture Coatings

Eliminating Surface Defects and Improving Leveling

• Our wetting and levelling agents for water-based wood and furniture coatings KBS-L4220W, KBS-L4250W, KBS-L4250AW, KBS-L4140W, KBS-L4120W, KBS-L3610W, and KBS-L3330W improve wetting, leveling, and surface smoothness. The series includes polyether silicone, alkynediol derivatives, and fluorine-modified acrylate solutions, allowing formulators to balance surface control, compatibility, and foam tendency. They help reduce orange peel and fish eyes, improve feel, and support good alignment for matte powder and aluminum powder systems. KBS-L3610W is a fluorine-modified acrylate solution for surface-control evaluation, while the alkynediol and polyether-modified silicone grades offer flexible options for different water-based furniture coating formulations.

Improving Pigment Dispersion and Color Stability

• Our pigment and filler dispersing and wetting agents series for water-based wood and furniture coatings such as KBS-F0720W, KBS-F0700W, KBS-F02400W, KBS-F2100W, KBS-F2720W, KBS-F2700AW, and KBS-F2200W provide stable pigment dispersion. KBS-F0720W is designed for high-concentration white slurry and excellent water resistance. KBS-F0700W is a general-purpose dispersing agent for inorganic, organic, and carbon black colour pastes. The series includes modified block polymers, block acrylates, modified polyurethane compounds, acid group-containing copolymer solutions, block copolymers, and acid-containing group copolymer solutions, supporting color development, viscosity reduction, anti-floating, and color stability in water-based furniture coatings.

Controlling Rheology: Anti-Settling and Anti-Sagging

• Our rheology control additives series for water-based wood and furniture coatings such as KBS-C4200W and KBS-C5610W provide anti-settling and anti-sagging performance. KBS-C4200W is based on organic polyureas, and KBS-C5610W is based on salts of modified polyamides. They are designed to be easily dispersed and to minimize effects on gloss and leveling in water-based furniture coating systems.

Defoaming and Foam Control

• Our defoamers and air release additives for water-based wood and furniture coatings such as KBS-X4140W and KBS-X0620AW combine compatibility and defoaming ability in water-based systems. KBS-X4140W is an alkynediol derivative, and KBS-X0620AW is an organosiloxane polymer. These defoamers are suitable for water-based furniture topcoats, matt coatings, pigmented systems, and thick-film systems, with selection depending on compatibility and foam-control requirements.

Adhesion Promotion and Substrate Bonding

• Our adhesion promoter and coupling agent for water-based wood and furniture coatings, KBS-Z0300W, is based on polyester compounds and improves adhesion to furniture substrates. It is designed for water-based furniture coatings where enhanced substrate bonding is required.

Practical Formulation Considerations

• Loading levels. Additive dosage depends on the base resin system, pigment/filler loading, and target performance. Laboratory evaluation is recommended for each formulation.
• Compatibility. This series is compatible with water-based furniture coating systems, including water-based PU, pigment/filler pastes, matte coatings, aluminum powder systems, and general water-based furniture topcoats. KBS-F0720W is designed for high-concentration white slurry and water resistance; KBS-F0700W is designed for inorganic, organic, and carbon black colour pastes.
• Processing. Add under moderate agitation. Dispersants are typically incorporated during the pigment dispersion stage. Anti-settling and thixotropic agents can be added during let-down or under controlled shear. Wetting and leveling agents and defoamers are generally added in the let-down stage.
• Surface and feel. For matt and aluminum powder systems, alkynediol derivatives and polyether-modified silicones can be selected according to feel, alignment, and compatibility requirements. KBS-L3610W fluorine-modified acrylate solution can be evaluated for surface control.
• Foam control. KBS-X0620AW organosiloxane polymer and KBS-X4140W alkynediol derivative are recommended according to compatibility and defoaming requirements in water-based furniture coatings.
